December 2007 Annapurna Conservation Area: Maoists demanding "tourist fee"

Reports from Kaski and Myagdi districts say that Maoists continue extortion from tourists demanding NRs 1800 as "tourist fee". Maoist activists beat up a foreign tourist at Dangsing village northeast of Birethanti (Kaski district) for refusing to pay donation as demanded by them. Dangsing lies on the "Manang trail" from Ghandruk or Ghorepani to Naya Pul some 42 kilometers away from Pokhara.

October 2007 Everest region- Solu Khumbu: Maoists continue extortion from tourists

Maoist cadres have been extorting from trekkers at the Mt Everest region of the district. Kirat State Committee - an organisation affiliated to Maoists - cadres collect money forcefully from trekkers at Ghat in the district.

October 2007 Manang: Maoists collecting 'Donation' from Tourists

Maoist rebels have a strong presence in the Lukla area but have said their policy is not to harm foreign tourists.

The tourists arriving in the district headquarters said they were forced to pay to the Maoists in at Dharapani of Tale VDC-3, near the border with Lamjung district.
