According to park officials, the number of rhinos increased in the Chitwan National Park by 36 from 372 in 2005 to 408 in 2008.

Only two endangered rhinos were poached in the country in 2007, one in Chitwan National Park (CNP) and the other in Bardiya National Park (BNP). Due to the decade-long conflict, CNP and BNP had seen sharp increases in poaching and trafficking of endangered species.
