Tshering Pem Wangchuck's visit in Switzerland

 The
festival, attended by Mr. Peter Arbenz of SDC, Mrs. Annemarie Huber-Hotz,
Federal Chancellor, Mr. Werner Kuelling, Secretary General of Helvetas,
and members of the Von Schultess family, included songs and dances by RAPA
(Royal Academy of Performing Arts) and Swiss performersas
well as Bhutanese cuisine prepared by chefs from Bhutan. |

In
Zurich, Her Majesty met the Secretary General of Helvetas, Mr. Werner Kuelling,
who committed 100,000 Swiss Francs for the YDF. Her Majesty said that the
establishment of a Youth Development Centre was an immediate priority since
it would provide a much needed platform for youth in Thimphu to channel
their energy in a healthy and positive way.
In
Geneva, Her Majesty met the Bhutanese community and visited important historical
and scenic sites in and around the city. The Permanent Representative of
Bhutan to the UN in Geneva said that Her Majesty, accompanied by Their
Royal Highnesses Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck, Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck
and Dasho Ugyen Jigme Wangchuck, had made a deep impression wherever they
visited. Her Majesty's passion to promote YDF activities has made an impact
on all the people she had met, he said.
Her
Majesty the Queen visited Chamonix, a well-known tourist resort in France
where Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe is situated. In August
2002, a protocol to promote cooperation in the field of tourism had been
signed by the Ambassador of Bhutan in Switzerland and the Mayor of Chamonix.
Her Majesty presented a number of Bhutanese arts and craft products to
be displayed at a "Bhutan Window" in the city square. According to the
Ambassador of Bhutan in Switzerland, the Bhutan display would be seen by
the thousands of tourists visiting Chamonix.
