National education goals

To nurture and develop the personalities and innate abilities of each individual
To instil respect for human values and the will to safeguard national and social beliefs
To enhance social unity
To help the individual develop her or his identity in both national and international context and lead a socially harmonious life in the modern world
To aid the modernization of the nation by creating able human resources for its development
To teach the thoughtful protection and wise use of Nepal's natural resources
To help disadvantaged citizens to enter the mainstream of national life.

Primary education

To develop the innate ability of each individual child
To advance the habit of exploration through curiosity
To help create interest in arts and culture
To enhance the ability to communicate and exchange ideas, both orally and in writing
To augment the mathematical skills required to solve everyday practical problems
To build positive awareness of health issues and develop awareness towards the importance of the environment
To develop a cooperative and responsible attitude and an appreciation of democratic values and social norms
To make citizens proud of their nation and devoted to the national unity.

Lower secondary education

To produce citizens who believe in the nation and in democracy
To augment the sense of responsibility in students towards the social and natural environment
To enhance competency in students in communicating ideas
To make them independent, hard working, health and environment conscious and ethical.

Secondary education

To produce competent and healthy citizens capable to contribute to national development
To make the students familiar with national traditions, cultural and social heritage and democratic values
To help students enhance their capability to communicate articulately and be aware of scientific issues
To stress creativity, co-operation, independence and industriousness in students.
Higher secondary education
To produce skilled middle level manpower capable to make contributions to the all round development of the country
To impart the basic knowledge required for receiving graduate level education.

Higher education

To link education with national issues like development, poverty reduction, etc. as well as with personality development
To produce high level and internationally competitive skilled manpower capable to contribute towards national economic growth and all-round development
To produce future leaders for the country
To generate knowledge through research studies and other innovative activities
To contribute towards the transfer of knowledge and technology
To preserve historical and cultural heritage of the country.
