During
the 12th Dzongkhag Yargye Tshogdu (DYT) meeting in Trashiyangtse, from
August 2 to 4, members decided that people caught smoking in the public
places will be fined.
According
to the Trashiyangtse dzongda, Dorji Norbu, although there was a definite
rule for shops selling tobacco to be fined Nu. 10,000 and their business
licences to be cancelled if the offence was repeated a second time, it
didn't say what was to be done to the smokers in public places.
"There
didn't exist any specific rule at the national level. It just says they
are not allowed to smoke in public places," said Dorji Norbu. "So we decided
to come up with our own local rule to fine the people smoking in public
places." |
